"Chamber Chatter"

Hello again from the Brookfield Chamber of Commerce, and welcome to Septembers “CHAMBER CHATTER”…Last month my picture was lost and even my mother didn’t see the August column…It was there though!!! Enough of my chatter…so much is going on, I’m going to jump right in.

The Brat booth is awarded to a different fundraising group each year, so please come, eat a brat and have some good old fashion fun!!!

The “Brookfield Farmers Market” at Tormey Park is still doing business despite 2 Saturday mornings of road construction. The Farmers Market Vendors want to Thank you all for your loyalty and remind you that your continued shopping support is needed to keep it growing. Remember, Farmers Market is open thru October, every Saturday from 8AM-Noon. During the “Oktoberfest in the Park” on October 6th…the Farmers Market Vendors will be at Twin Parks instead. Also, for the rest of the Market Season there will be NO CHARGE for booths. If you haven’t tried us… now would be a great time!!!

We had another really great Balloon Derby this year. Some have said, they thought it our best!!! We really missed having the Fly-In in conjunction with the derby though. With any event, volunteers are in need to keep things going. Let’s offer up some of our time to help!!! Each year the Chamber does a drawing from the paid up membership to give away their Balloon Ride...(Another Chamber perk!!!)…This year the winner was Ceebrook Creative Concepts with Verona Beardon as their local representative. My Thanks go out to the Balloon Sponsors for making it possible for Brookfield to host such a remarkable event. These sponsors are mostly local businesses, and shopping with them assures they’ll be here to sponsor yet another year. Our thanks also go out to Walmart for letting us make a last minute move to their grassy area for the Friday night “South Main Nite Flame”!!!

Speaking of the Friday night Balloon event, I am going to speak as plain ole Fran Graff…President of Green Hills Ballooning. I have to tell you how it stresses me to see “Squatters” show up… uninvited… to make money off of an event they didn’t sponsor or sign up to participate in…an event that took another group many months to bring to reality. What goes through the mind of a “squatter” as they cheat the local merchants & vendors (not to mention the group hosting the event) out of revenue. A legitimate vendor has been invited, reserved their space and has paid for their space. What would you do if you had a “squatter” at your event, what if it happened to you???

Melinda Allen is sponsoring the 1st annual Holiday Mart on Saturday, October 20th, from 1-4PM at the Catholic School Basement. This will be an Open House for local vendors to show off & sell their Holiday Wares. Booth space does include tables and is only $10.00. For additional info contact Melinda Allen at 258-2910.

November 16th & 17th kicks off our shopping season with “Holiday Open House”. You will find refreshments and special deals to help you get your shopping started.

The Chamber monthly luncheons will start back up on Wed, October 17th at the Fire House Community Room. Donna Schweikert will be catering our Noon meal every 3rd Wednesday of the month. I know the food will be great and hope to have an assortment of interesting speakers throughout the year.

The Annual Brookfield Holiday Parade will be held on Friday, November 30th at 5PM to coincide with the Tree Lighting ceremony hosted by Parks & Rec. This year the theme is “Star Spangled Christmas” with prize money awarded to the top 3 floats. Santa will join us at the Gazebo after the lighting ceremony to hear all those Christmas wishes and hand out candy to the kids. Let’s hope there isn’t 7 inches of snow this year!!!
