"Chamber Chatter"

Happy month of "MAY" from the Brookfield Chamber of Commerce. Please get your SFD's crafter forms turned in as soon as possible. Also, don’t forget the Free Talent Show on Saturday June 5 at the Gazebo from 2-4pm. Something new this year "Mrs. Summer Fun Days"... all you Married Mrs. are invited to participate. Another new addition is the "Free Movie" sponsored by Citizens Bank on Saturday evening in the East Twin Park. What a lot of fun we have coming up in Brookfield. On to the Chatter!!!

The Recycling Trailer will be back to Wal-Mart on June 9th-16th. Hope Haven had a driver problem last week and the trailer was delivered a day late but remained a day later to compensate. The folks at Hope Haven have praised the cleanliness of Brookfield's recycling. We are recycling so much that the trailer, again, had to be emptied on Friday & Monday. Between the monthly scheduled dates at Wal-Mart, you can always go to Green Hills Recycling in Laclede. Their # is 963-2044. Green Hills also accepts some additional items like car batteries!!!

Chamber lunch was held today with Dr. Paul Barger, Brookfield R-3 Superintendent, as our speaker. Dr. Barger spoke about the schools finances and what the future has to offer. This was the last Chamber Lunch till September. Summer Vacation!!! Chamber lunch is held at "Step Back in Time" at Noon every 3rd Wednesday. We will resume our lunches on September 15th. If you haven’t been coming to the Chamber Lunches - please join us in September.

The "Fight for Ryenne" Group has organized the following fundraising events:

Thank you to the volunteer firefighters heading up the fundraising.

We had a Ribbon Cutting last week at new member "Fatman Ink" with owners Tammy & Sean Stamphill. They are located in the old Pam's Furniture Building on W. Hwy 36. I had already told you that "Fatman Ink" has tattooing, skateboards & accessories, motorcycle attire and more but I hadn't mentioned the fact that they are building a skateboard ramp. This will be a great place for our local skateboarders to practice their skills this summer. For more info you can reach them at 258-3978 or cell # 734-0803.

Rogene Smith is publishing a book on "Old Houses in Brookfield". She has been working on this project for many years and the deadline is coming up fast. If you own or live in an old house built before 1910 please contact Rogene at 258-3123. Pictures, history & stories will be accepted until June 1st, 2010. I too live in one of these "old houses". From the old abstract, I'm guessing 1884-1886. The abstracts don’t just say  'The house was built this year'. I ran into some folks at McDonalds last week that had lived in my house back in the 40's when it had 3 apartments upstairs. That was new news to me. I had known about two apartments but not three. I hope they can find some pictures for me.
