Brookfield, Missouri - “A Great Place to Land!”

May, 2008
"Chamber Chatter"

Hello from the Brookfield Chamber of Commerce. Yes, yes, yes…Summer is here, and I hope I can finally get my garden tilled. It’s getting planted a little later than some years and earlier than others but what I’ve found about our great Missouri Summers is that there is always plenty of time for a garden to grow.

Last week, our April Welcome Wagon bags were delivered to 21 new Brookfield Residents. Joyce Rulon is the Chamber's official new “Welcome Wagon Lady” and what a ball of energy she is. Thank you Joyce & thank you to these fine businesses for their donations to the welcome wagon bags. Sloan Eyecare, Citizens Bank, Dr. Pitts, McDonalds, Hometown Hardware, First Mo. National, Linn County Leader, Tooeys, YMCA, Quinn Lumber, Brookfield Library, DeVoy Baker Ins., IDA, Casey’s, Sonic, Mia Bella, Tequila Jalisco, Simply Country Café & The Brookfield Chamber. We will do deliveries each month and if you would like to donate to the bags…just call!!!

What a lot of fun we had at the first Farmers Market Customer Appreciation Day on May 10th. We grilled hot dogs and “Charlie the Singing Waitress” entertained us for hours while the shoppers browsed thru the flower baskets, baked goods and crafts. It’s just about time for some fresh fruits & vegetables to start arriving so keep coming to visit each Saturday between 8 & Noon. We have such loyal shoppers at the Market…Our many thanks to you all. The wind kind of beat our banner to death, but Sam @ Innovative Marketing is replacing it for us. Better and stronger this time!!!

At Chamber Lunch today, our speaker was Tammy Taylor, Program Director for GHCAA out of Trenton. She spoke to us about their fuel assistance program, one of many offered thru their offices. Sprague’s Market catered our lunch today and they absolutely make the best smoked pork chops I’ve ever tasted. We won’t have Chamber Lunch thru the Summer but will kick back off in September on the 3rd Wednesday at “A Step Back in Time”. Your always welcome to join us.

We had two Ribbon Cuttings this month. One at TK’s Overstock Store located in the old Beauty College @ 210 N. Main Street. Tim & Tracie Kohls are the owners and have a wide variety of really unique (& reasonable) items to choose from. Junk & Disorderly is our other new business located @ 202 N. Main Street in the old Mobley Building. New owners Kenneth & Tammy Egerton have consignment booths full of antiques and collectibles, candles & one of a kind items. Both DK’s & Junk & Disorderly are new Chamber Members and we appreciate them being here.

Last but not least I wanted to mention the beautiful new lights on top of the underpass. I think they are replicas from the 20’s…And, I saw them doing some concrete work on the underpass walls. Hey, every little bit helps. This thanks goes to the City!!! And, the Chamber has some new banners ordered & we hope to see them up before Summer Fun Days.

If you should have a question on anything that’s going on, please feel free to call the chamber office @ 258-7255 or e-mail chamber@brookfieldmochamber.com. The Chamber is here to assist in bettering our community in any way we can by offering information about our area, welcoming new businesses and families, hosting special events to attract visitors and enhance shopping. Till next month….Shop Local…Recycle & Don’t Litter!!! Thanks for reading “CHAMBER CHATTER”!!!
