Happy March;
and I am so ready for warm weather. Plans are being made for the flower pots, and it’s time for the banners to switch from snowflakes to Flowers and Suns!!! A Big “Happy 5th Birthday” to my granddaughter, Khloie!!! On with the news!!!
I received my
Census 2010 form yesterday, and it is a lot easier than I thought it would be to fill out. BUT, if you need any assistance,
please call our County Chairpersons, Dana Tarpening (660-258-3377) or Becky Cleveland
(660-258-7278) for help.
The Recycling Trailer
will be back to Wal-Mart on April 7-14.
Chamber lunch was held today with Angie Wallace speaking about the plans for our 1st Alumni Weekend. Chamber lunch is held at “Step Back in Time” at
noon every third Wednesday. If you haven’t been coming to the Chamber
Lunches, please make an effort to attend. The food is great; and, of course, it’s always good company!!!

18, UMB Bank held its 30th Annual Agriculture Outlook with Dr. Abner Womack of FAPRI and Glen Grimes of the University of Missouri presenting their forecast for the 2010 marketing year.
Brookfield Parks & Rec Youth Summer Baseball & Softball
sign-ups are going on now until April 2, 2010. Forms can be picked up at the Brookfield Middle and High School
offices or the Parks & Rec office. Forms are to be mailed or returned to the Parks & Rec office by April 2. For more information,

Brookfield Bowl is now taking Summer League Signups. Their Summer hours will
start on May 3, 2010. Call 660-258-7476 for additional info.
The Linn County Historical Society-Museum
held their “Second Annual Fund Raiser”, Saturday, March 20, from 10am to 4pm, in the basement of the Catholic Church.
A soup lunch with dessert was featured for $5.00. Tickets were available from Historical Society members, at the
library, or the bookstore. A garage sale was held all day with an auction at 3pm.
Lunch tickets were used for the raffle. They welcomed any donated items to sell in the
garage sale and auction. Information: 660-258-7800.
Park Baptist Church
hosted in concert "4 His Love" (a men's quartet) during the morning service (10:30 a.m.) on Sunday, March
21. Everyone was invited to attend.

22, in the old Twisters (KFC) building on the corner of Lockling & Main. New owners, Don & LaDonna Fuhrhop, will serve
BBQ brisket, chicken, pulled pork, brats, burgers & hot dogs along with
homemade French fries, sweet potato fries, onion rings, baked sweet &
regular potatoes, potato salad, cole slaw & baked beans. There will be additional items along with
homemade pies & desserts. They will open at 11AM every day for lunch &

member “Taylors Computer Service” is now open for in-home service calls to install new hardware or software, upgrade, troubleshoot, remove
viruses or spyware - even set up your new computer at home or the office. Donnie Taylor has returned home to join his family in Brookfield after serving
three years in the Air Force as a computer programmer. He continues doing computer programming for the Army National Guard. You can reach Donnie at 228-257-3338 (one of those new computer phone

New Chamber Member “Blooming Baskets Greenhouse”, owned by Dan
Bontrager, is located 5 ½ miles west on P in Linneus. They have two large greenhouses and will be growing baskets for Farmers Market this year. They have bedding plants in flowers & vegetables along with handmade primitive wood items. You can call

Park Baptist Church Blood Drive will be held from 1 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, March
23, in the Fellowship Building.
Brookfield Sears Hometown Store is having a “Friends & Family VIP Event” on
Monday, March 22. There are so many great specials going on that they will be open from 8:30 am till 8pm that night. You’re all invited!!!
The Brookfield Community Teachers' Association
(CTA), of the Brookfield R3 School District, will be hosting a School Board Candidate Forum with the four candidates for School Board
on Tuesday, March 23, 2010. It will be held in the ACC Conference Room at the High School. The time is 5:30 PM and it is open to the public.
Two -
$250 scholarships will again be handed out by the Chamber this year. To get a form, just contact Melinda Allen at the
high school, 660-258-7242. March 24th is the deadline.
The North Missouri Energy Expo will be held on Saturday, March
27, from 10am to 4pm at the Walsworth Community Center in Marceline. The title of this event is “Let us Show You How to Reduce Your Energy Use”. There are
exhibitors & speakers going on all day with energy tips, products & information. The cost to attend is an item of non-perishable food that will be donated to both the Brookfield & Marceline Food Pantries or a free will donation.
Fun Days for Children and Young Teens with Special Needs
will be Sunday, March 28, at the YMCA in Brookfield between 2 & 4pm. There will be dancing with DJ Patrick McCurry, bounce houses, slides, and motorcycle rides. Refreshments too!!!
Park Baptist Church FEED "Spring Training"
for grades K thru 5 will be held from 5:30 to 7:00 March 28 thru March 31. There will be a special visit on the 31st from
KC Wolf and Muddy the Mudcat!!!
Safari Salon has new nail techs Jessica Yarborough & Brandy
Brien. Both are graduates of the distinguished Sam Brown Institute. Also, new hair stylist Johni Mayhew has joined the salon. Open M-F 9-6 & Sat 9-3.
The 2010 Annual Chamber Banquet &
Auction, along with the BAGP Citizens of the Year Awards will be held on Thursday, April
1, at the Brookfield Elks Club with Social Hour & Silent Auction starting at 6pm, with music by Farrell Hahn and his
band and dinner catered by Stan Monnig at 7pm. Silent Auction begins at 6PM with Smith Auctioneers conducting the
oral auction after dinner. Besides the presentation of the BAGP Citizens of the Year Awards, we will be honoring Pershing Memorial Hospital, 50 years old,
and Tooey’s Clothing, 150 years old (Brookfield’s oldest retail business). The Banquet & Auction is the
Chamber's largest fundraiser of the year, so please plan on attending. Chamber
board members are out selling tickets now, or you can call the Chamber Office @
660-258-7255. This special event is open to all, tickets are only $25, and it is always a fun night.
Brookfield Farmers Market is almost here!!! The season kicks off 8 am-Noon, Saturday May
1, and continues till October 30. All growers are welcome - just call the chamber office to get the info!!! It has gone over so well that the 2nd Saturday of each month is again “Customer Appreciation
Day” with free hot dogs & entertainment at Tormey Park. Come join us, we’d love to have
you. Help us make our 5th year the best!!
The Brookfield Summer Fun Days
will be held June 3-6. There will be a Car Show, Free Talent Show, Baby Show & Queen
Contest, Arts & Crafts, the Buddy Bass Fishing Tournament, 5 & 10K run, Sidewalk Sales, Big Parade and a Friday night Concert at the Gazebo. There will be additional entertainment along with a free movie in the
park sponsored by Citizens Bank. We have lost our Carnival for the 1st weekend of June but will have a new
one - Jones & Company Carnival - on June 17, 18 & 19. It was too late to change the date of Summer Fun Days this year, but starting
in 2011, it will be held the 3rd weekend in June to coincide with the Carnival. Along with that change, we will also be leaving Main Street open (at least the 100 & 200 blocks) to encourage shopping our businesses and
to provide additional parking.
The Linn County 4H/FFA Fair will be held July
10-July 17. I should have a schedule of events soon. For info in the
meantime, you can call University Extension in Linneus @ 660-895-5123.
The new
Alumni Day Event will be the weekend of July 17. Many things are already in the planning
stages like an Alumni Golf Tournament, dance, arts & crafts show, Concert in the Park,
parade, home tours and much more to come. Get hold of your classmates and come meet old friends at Brookfield’s 1st Annual Alumni Day.
Another planning meeting was held Sunday, March 21 @ 3pm at the Career Center. Volunteers and ideas are
always welcome.
Pershing Health Systems would like to
congratulate one of their Community Medical Associates physicians, Dr. John
Collins, for being named “Family Physician of the Year” by the Missouri Society of the American College of Family Physicians. Dr. Collins has practiced at CMA since 1998 and also has a practice at Kirksville Family Medicine.
BAGP & the Chamber would like to
congratulate the 2010 Graduating Leadership Class. I attended the graduation and dinner last week and was proud to see 14 new
leaders full of enthusiasm to help Brookfield grow. This was the 4th year Marcia Cunningham, Leadership Task Force President, has organized the class. If you would be interested in joining the 2011 class, call Marcia at
