Brookfield, Missouri - “A Great Place to Land!”
June, 2008
"Chamber Chatter"
Hello from the Brookfield Chamber of Commerce. Here we are already half way through the 2008 year. Where does the time go??? Must be my age…I always heard that the older you got the faster time speeds along. (I'm a believer!!!) The new Green Hills Area Wide Phone books should be arriving just any day now, and our beautiful new Brookfield Visitors Guides are finished and being delivered to sponsors all over town as I speak. Hope you like the new "Welcome to Brookfield" banners we purchased with Grant money from
Wal*Mart. They arrived just before Summer Fun Days and Greg Zahner (Head of the Street Dept.) worked many late hours getting them hung on time. Also, thanks to Bob & Charlie who worked all through Summer Fun Days keeping our Parks clean.
Before I catch you up on the local happenings, I want to say something to the clown that saved my life at Summer Fun Days, and I'm just going to give you the short version of what happened….I promise. It was right after the parade on Saturday…I had picked up pork sandwiches from the Church and took them back to my daughter's booth to eat lunch. Just like that, bite # 2 lodged in my throat and in that very instant my breath was gone. I tried drinking water and almost drowned myself. My attempt to cough it up also failed. The fear in my eyes told my friend Bev that I was in trouble (oddly enough I remember none of these last events) and I am told she jumped to my aid trying over and over to give me the Heimlich but just wasn't strong enough. Tippy the Clown, who was in the next booth, was making balloon animals for the kids and heard our commotion. He ran over pushing Bev aside and administered, obviously, the perfect Heimlich maneuver. How do you thank a clown in striped toe socks and a funny hat that saves your life? First of all you find out his name. Thank you David Fields from New Boston…thank you for being there and having the knowledge and ability to give me another chance at living. My children thank you, my Mom thanks you and my friends thank you. I never knew you before, but I know God put you there just for me that day. Thank you.
Just about everything about Summer Fun Days was a hit this year. Toot Toot the Train, the Queen Contest, Car Show, Carnival, Skate Board Competition, Talent Show, Lawn Mower Races, Baby Show, Concert, Square Dancers, Crafters,
Food Booths, and especially the Parade. It was a really great parade and it was a special surprise that so many Shriners from St. Joe showed up. Also loved the "Life Care" float and all the antique tractors.
The Linn County Humane Society is over populated with adorable kittens that are "Ready to Adopt"!!! Give
them a call to make one of these yours. 660-258-3322.
