"Chamber Chatter"
Happy Hot Steamy day from the Brookfield Chamber of Commerce!!! Thank you Parks & Rec for the last corner of landscaping on the
north side of the underpass... this was done by A-1 Landscaping... looks sooooo good. As does the paint job going
onto the building with Edward Jones & Professional Land Title. Across the street
Kelly's Printing & Petals has really made the block stand out with the removal of a couple overgrown
trees... and just a few weeks ago, the old hatchery across the alley from Monarch Title Company got a tuck point and paint job, and next door the old R Gang Antique Store is going thru some major
renovations... Well, we're starting to feel the pride!!!
Congratulations to all who made the
1st Annual Brookfield Alumni Weekend a total success!!! What fun we all had with massive crowds on Friday and Saturday nights and the
banquet with almost 300 in attendance. This new event was a real boost to the Brookfield economy, and it will only grow from here.
Another great happening for Brookfield and the entire Hwy 36 corridor was the
dedication of Hwy 36 going 4-lane from St Joseph to Hannibal. This event took place in Macon July 10th at the corner of 36 & 63. There were many prominent speakers from across the state and some of the towns brought along a little something that represented their
communities. Hannibal had Tom Sawyer & Becky, Laclede had General Pershing, St Joe had their Pony Express rider on his
horse, and Brookfield had a GIANT hot air balloon tethering right above the new highway for almost 2 hours!!! Yes, we looked good!!! I quote
"With the dedication of the US 36 Highway four-lane between Hannibal and Macon on July 10, the Chicago Kansas City Expressway, a work in progress for almost 60 years will now become a
reality. In addition, along with the importance of the completion of US 36 itself across Missouri, this new four-lane highway completes the I-72-US 36 from Indiana to Kansas, a major East-West corridor. The economic benefit to the communities on the corridor will be tremendous as the new route becomes
established." Yes, it's all good!!!
The Recycling Trailer filled up so fast again that it had to be emptied on Friday & Monday to finish getting all our recycling. The trailer will return next month to the Wal-Mart parking lot on August 11th-18th. Thank you all who recycle!!! If you are a business and have cardboard or pallets to be picked up just call
Hope Haven at
660-646-5172. The truck comes to Brookfield twice a week to pick up these items. I have been asked to let you know that some people are putting trash & glass in the recycling
bins - Please Stop!!! We don't want to lose our trailer!!!
Farmers Appreciation Picnic is

past, the politicians will be serving you dinner in exchange for a little time on the microphone. The entire meal has been provided from
donations - donations from our area businesses. Please join us... we are a farming community and proud to host this event in their honor. Just bring your lawn chairs enjoy a good meal and stay for a concert by

Here is the July 16th update taken directly from the website on
the fight to save Swan Lake. "Our voices have been heard! Officials with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service announced today that the
Service will prepare a new alternative (Alt 4) for future management. A video was released early this afternoon summarizing the announcement. Additional information can be found on the Swan Lake National Wildlife Refuge Comprehensive Conservation Plan web
page. Thanks to everyone who took the time to contact the FWS and their elected representatives about this important issue. It appears as though our voices have been heard. But we are not out of the woods yet. Please continue to closely monitor this situation. Details about the new alternative will be provided on the website as they become available. You can keep up with everything happening by going to
www.saveswanlake.com.” To read all the positive letters sent to FWS defending Swan Lake from our Senators and US
Representatives, click on Links & Media Coverage. Thank you for your support!!!
