"Chamber Chatter"
Hello from the Brookfield Chamber of Commerce and what a beautiful July day it is. Could it be, I feel relief that our 150th Birthday was a complete success??? I think so!!! I’m a week late writing Chamber Chatter but couldn’t squeeze in another thing last
week.… Last month I was talking about the fix up/paint up on the Main Street Underpass, then the landscaping on the two underpass corners happened. Oh my gosh, it was the best thing ever…so beautiful. We owe our thanks to Karen Grant of Parks & Rec for that addition to our town. And what a great job Mendenhall’s did on the landscaping. Also the Monroe Street Underpass got a clean-up and new paint job by volunteers Morris Melte & Mark McGlasson. Can’t forget the
storefronts… they were all beautiful. Thanks so much. Now on to more chatter.
The Recycling Trailer filled up so fast again that it had to be emptied and brought back to finish getting all our recycling. The trailer will return next month to the Wal-Mart parking lot on August 12th-19th. Thank you all who recycle!!! If you are a business and have cardboard or pallets to be picked up just call Hope Haven at 646-5172. The truck comes to Brookfield twice a week to pick up these items.
We will have a
Ribbon
Cutting
this Saturday (August 1st), 11AM at “Reel Time Cinema” to kick off their Grand Opening!!! Last evening the Chamber members got a special tour of the new facility along with some delicious theatre snacks. I have already taken my 3 granddaughters to the new theatre and we had a great time. There are 3 screens for 3 different movies playing all the time. Plenty of choices for the whole family and very reasonable prices. The arcade expansion is underway and soon there will be a place to host birthday parties and stuff like that. The new Manager is Tiffany Hale from Colorado and the phone number is 258-2224. You can go online to check out the times and movies at
www.reeltimecinema.com.
August 6th (Thursday) at 10AM we will have a
Ribbon
Cutting
at America’s Cash Advance & Pawn located in the Precision Auto Bldg at 301 W. Helm. Owner Sherry Sensenich can be reached at phone # 258-7645.
Twisters Fire Grill is getting closer to their opening
date. Tina Smith Graphics has designed their new logo so the signs will be ready soon. I’ve gotten a peek at what foods will be
served… your going to love it… can’t wait!!!
New Chamber Member “Show-Me-Energy-Savers” owned by Tully Reed has just recently installed the heat reflection film on my office windows. What a difference it makes. And when the weather gets cold it is suppose to keep the heat from going out the windows. What a cool difference it has made. You can reach Tully @ 258-3973.
“Let’s Talk Business” the new discussion group for all Linn County Businesses has had two very productive meetings. Their first new effort to increase business will be a late night shop Brookfield evening once a month starting Saturday August 15th. All businesses are asked to stay open till 10PM. Discount coupons and other special service fliers will be distributed from participating businesses as a joint effort to help one another. Local crafters will be welcome to set up on Main Street, and non-store front businesses will have the opportunity to set up in front of participating businesses to display their services. For more information on fliers or this event they can contact Calvin or Rhonda Uptain @ 258-7800 or Brain Menini @ 258-7476.
Next event in Brookfield is the
33rd “Great Pershing Balloon Derby”
on Labor Day weekend, September 3rd-7th. The Queen Contest kicks off the event on Thursday evening at the Gazebo. For more info call Jennifer Luddington @ 349-8556. We have a new Childrens Bouncy Blow up Carnival coming this year opening Thursday thru Saturday. Friday the Pilots arrive and we have the South Main Nite Flame sponsored by McDonalds Restaurant and Greg Simmerman (American Family Ins.). Flights are Saturday, Sunday & Monday mornings at 7:15AM and Saturday & Sunday afternoon at 6PM. We will also have a glow on both Saturday and Sunday evenings after the flights. Tickets are $2 each or $6 a carload or $15 for a full weekend pass. Please support the Derby by coming onto the field instead of sitting along the road. The Crafters will be in the Twin parks all day on Saturday and the big Balloonist Parade is at Noon. Everyone is invited to join in the Parade!! Saturday night there’s a free dance (everyone welcome) at the Elk’s Club with local band “Mid Life Crisis’ playing from 9am-1am. Get ready, there’s another great weekend right around the corner. If you would like to sponsor a balloon we have a few pilots on a waiting list. Call Bev Chiolerio @ 258-5656.
Just a reminder that Oktoberfest in the Park has been changed to October 10th to coincide with the Brookfield Homecoming and the 2nd Annual Brookfield Bar-B-Q Contest. For more info on the Bar-B-Q Contest contact Larry Shew @ 258-5446. We will still have free booths along with the pie & chili contests. This event is growing and having it on Homecoming gives our visitors something special to do.
Let me finish up with the last of my
Sesquicentennial
talk… There are some souvenirs left… plates, beer steins, & ornaments. Call Sherry Baker @ 258-5050. My personal thanks to all who planned, worked & attended the Sesquicentennial. Brookfield made quite a showing and I’m proud to say I’m a Brookfield Girl. We filled the town every day and worked together the way all communities should. Thank you everyone for the hard work and dedication that made this the best 150th Birthday Brookfield could have!!!
If you have any questions on anything in the Chamber Chatter, just call the chamber office @ 258-7255 or e-mail
chamber@shighway.com. We are here to assist you and our community in any way we can.
