"Chamber Chatter"
Hello,
Happy "2011" from the Brookfield
Chamber... Dates are getting finalized and work is underway for the Annual Chamber Banquet &
Auction... Summer Fun Days... and Alumni Weekend. We have the new 2011 Missouri Vacation Planner and the new 2011 recycling calendars at the Chamber office for you to pick up, receive by e-mail or look at on the Chamber website. I already sent out 3 relocation packets this week with 2 of them bringing
businesses. It may be cold and snowy but Brookfield continues to draw new residents from all over the US. That’s all good!!!
I'm going to kick off with
congratulations to our 1st Anniversary Businesses in Brookfield. Pig Skin Pub,
Kelly's Printing and Petals, Bubbles & Bows Dog Grooming & Friday's
Apparel... some anniversaries have just past and some will happen in the next couple weeks but we are so glad to have you in Brookfield!!!
The Great Northwest Day at the Capitol is February 1st. This is an opportunity to visit with legislators and talk about critical issues that face those of us who live in northwest Missouri. If you are interested in attending this daylong event, please contact Marcia Cunningham or Becky Cleveland at
660 258 7278. This will be my last year at GND's, but I have watched it pull our many communities closer over the years. What a great event!!!
Just announced today that
McDonalds is closing on February 12th to build their new restaurant and re-open the middle of May. How will I ever live without their
"Sweet Tea" and Breakfast Burritoes??? The next paragraph is a follow up!!!
This is a
"Bid Invitation" to all our local contractors to be a part of the construction of our new McDonalds. The
McCurry's and contractor Mike Sumpter want as much of the McDonalds project to be done locally as possible. Bid date and time is Friday, February 4th at 12pm. You can get a
bid sheet at the Chamber office (or I can e-mail it to you). You need to contact Mike by e-mail at:
MikeS@MeyerComplete.com or phone at 816-251-4769 if you want to submit a bid.
The Hope Haven Recycling Trailer will return next month to Southside Equipments parking lot at the Brookfield Plaza on February 9th thru 16th. It will be emptied each Friday & Monday mornings.
Remember, NO Glass & NO Garbage, and they asked me to let you know that they recycle the trash bags so bagging your stuff makes it a whole lot easier for them. You may also recycle at the Early Childhood Center
"Bright Beginnings" at the school, on March 3rd and April 28th. They collect all paper, and aluminum cans. I have the full new 2011 schedule if you would like a
copy - I can e-mail or you may pick one up here!!!
The Parks and Recreation Annual Indoor Yard Sale starts next weekend. Karen Grant is still accepting items at the Burris Center and you can call 258-5644 for drop off information. They always have a wild variety of stuff. Giving to the P&R Yard Sale is beautifying Brookfield.
I'm still looking for a
Welcome Wagon volunteer to deliver welcome wagon bags to all the newcomers. Man or
woman - with a little time to donate. We're a couple months behind now so please call if you can help.
We welcome new Chamber Member
"Alaska
House" located at 455 Locust Street in Chillicothe (the old Winklemeyer Furniture building). Alaska House hosts receptions, weddings, birthday parties, etc. in their newly restored 1917 building with catering that cannot be matched. In the future, you will also see a Bed & Breakfast and Mercantile store. The Gourmet Dinner Club is open the 2nd weekend (Friday & Saturday) of each month. February 11th & 12th is their Sweetheart Dinner with live music. For reservations, you can call
660-646-4015. Alaska House is owned by Bruce & Lisa King & partner Genie Amen, (a Brookfield girl). Visit their website at:
www.alaskahousemo.com.
The Brookfield Presbyterian Church welcomes their new
Pastor, Julie King. I had the pleasure of meeting her in my office and at
January's Chamber Lunch.
Speaking of
Chamber Lunch...it was held at the Cattleman's Banquet Room last Wednesday to our largest ever attendance. Our speaker was Tama
Marriott, one of the founders of "The Banquet Table". They provide a free hot meal every Tuesday & Thursday evening from 5-7pm at the Catholic School Basement for anyone in Linn County that needs one. If you or your group would like to help sponsor a meal,
please call Secretary, Shannon Jacob at 660-591-6682. I think this is wonderful!!!
Chamber Lunch in February will now be held at the
Cattleman's Banquet Room on February 16th. A change from LED's since the sign on their door says
"Closed For Ever" (that caught me off guard). Our speaker will be Don Koonce from Ameren
Missouri's Callaway Plant. He'll be speaking about what's going on with a potential 2nd Callaway plant and the impact that would have on Missouri and our future electric rates!!! Very interesting. Please join us for very good company, good food and an excellent speaker. RSVP to the Chamber at
660-258-7255.
"Parenting
Classes" are held every Monday night, at the YMCA from 6 to 8 p.m. Sponsored by GHCAA, YMCA and MU Extension.
Modern Championship
Wrestling is February 26th at the Walsworth Community Center in Marceline. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the show starts at 6 p.m. All tickets are $10. The show features two Championship matches, and three-plus hours of entertainment. Again this year, the event is sponsored by past championship wrestler and present sports writer for the Linn County
Leader, Dustin Watson.
The next
Alumni Weekend meetings are scheduled for February 27th and March 20th at 1:30 in the Fire Station Conference Room. Alumni Weekend will be July 15th, 16th & 17th, 2011.
Summer Fun Days is set for the 3rd weekend of June on the 16th, 17th & 18th& 19th.
Besides the big parade, carnival, baby show, queen contest, car show, crafters & fishing
contest, this year we will have magician and escape artist "The Great
Mancini" doing 3 acts on Saturday and a great escape on Friday. Lots of fun to look forward to!!!
I end my chatter with this
special note from Kathy Carpenter... "Hi Fran, I would like to thank all those who have sent cards and put me on their prayer list. I am getting stronger and am home, but still slow. I just want everyone to know we are still open for business as I have several really good employees taking care of things. A big thank you to
everyone... I have been blessed by so many friends." Kathy and Fred Carpenter own the Bed & Breakfast
"Inn at Clover Hill" on Hwy YY close to Sumner. Get well soon Kathy!!!
If you should have a question on anything
that's going on, please feel free to call the chamber office @
660-258-7255 or e-mail
us. The Chamber is here to assist in bettering our community in any way we can by offering information about our area, welcoming new businesses and families, hosting special events to attract visitors and enhance shopping.
Till next month… Give
thanks for what we do have... Travel Safely... “Shop Local”...
Recycle... Give to those less fortunate... and thanks for reading “CHAMBER CHATTER”!!!
