Happy “2010” from the Brookfield Chamber... Dates are getting finalized and work is underway for the Annual Chamber Banquet & Auction…Summer Fun Days…Farmers Appreciation Picnic and new Alumni Day Event. We have the new 2010 Missouri Vacation Planner and the new 2010 recycling calendars at the Chamber office for you to pick up, receive by e-mail or look at on the Chamber website. I can’t go another minute without saying how beautiful the front of Hometown Hardware looks. Another great rehab is the outside of Tequila Jalisco. What a beautiful mural on the south wall. I love the whole paint job. Lots of new businesses, ribbon cuttings and events so here I go!!!

The winner of the Chamber Window Decorating Contest was “The Berry Patch” located at 301 N. Main Street decorated by Jane Walgren & Tua McCartney. 2nd Place was Chariton Valley Cellular. Thanks to you all.

In case you missed it…the lucky winner of the Shop Brookfield for the Holidays drawing was “Carl Camlin”. It was a pleasure to award him with $1400 worth of prizes. For all of you that didn’t win... better luck next year!!!

Pig Skin BBQ & Pub will have their Ribbon Cutting on Tuesday, January 26th @ 10 AM. Pig Skin is located at 119 E. Brooks and is open Tuesday-Saturday right now. The phone # is 660-258-2600. Michael Wessing, owner, will start serving BBQ full time in the next couple weeks. Your gonna love it!!!

Another new business, Kelly’s Printing & Petals, located at 110 E. Brooks (in the old Gerry Elson building) will open for business on Monday, February 1st. Her Ribbon Cutting will be at 10 AM on Thursday, February 4. Owner Kelly King-Collins will feature apparel printing, novelties & gifts and a florist shop (just in time for Valentine’s Day)!!! Still another Ribbon Cutting will be on February 11th @ 10 AM at Friday’s Apparel (slight name change) located next door to Green Hills Pharmacy. Friday’s will be open Mon, Tue & Thurs 10-6, Wed & Friday 10-7, and Saturday 10-4. Friday’s has new, brand name, greatly discounted clothing & gently used clothing for the entire family.

New business “Bubbles & Bows” Dog Grooming will be opening later in February. It is located at 106 North Main next to Cleveland Real Estate. Operator Beth-Anne Wilson, formerly of New Mexico, has 20 plus years experience and is licensed & insured in all areas. We have needed this business for a long time. Welcome!!!

Joe Duey, owner of Linn County Computer Repair & Gaming, is moving upstairs in the Francis Building at 106 North Main, Suite 20. He should be ready to go by the end of February. Along with his computer business, Joe will buy, sell, and trade new & used, vintage & modern video games along with DVD’s. Contact Joe at 660-413-2577.

We also have a new photography business called “Memory Lane” owned by Darcy Lane; a new CPA, Jennifer Waugh; and a new photography studio in the works on Brooks Street. I don’t know much about these yet, nor do I know what Josh & John Fay are up to in the old Fat Busters building. I’ll know more by next month... I promise!!!

The Great Northwest Day at the Capitol is February 2. This is an opportunity to visit with legislators and talk about critical issues that face those of us who live in northwest Missouri. If you are interested in attending this day long event, please contact Marcia Cunningham or Becky Cleveland at 660-258-7278. Registration is $50 and includes introductions at the Capitol, a lunch with legislators to hear about the issues, tours or small group visits with legislators, and a Mardi Gras-like event with food and music at the Capitol Plaza Hotel - another opportunity to chat with your representatives and senators.

The 2010 Annual Chamber Banquet & Auction, along with the BAGP Citizens of the Year Awards will be held on Thursday, April 1, at the Brookfield Elks Club with social hour & silent auction starting at 6 pm and dinner at 7pm. Always a fun social event!!

June 3, 4, 5 & 6 are the dates for Brookfield Summer Fun Days 2010. Plans are underway for the Car Show, Parade, Baby Show, Queen Contest, Gazebo Concert, Talent Show, Arts & Crafts show, Fishing Tournament, 5 & 10 K run and more. 

The Linn County 4H/FFA Fair will be held July 10-17. Great timing to lead right into Alumni Day.

The Farmers Appreciation Picnic will be in here (but the date hasn’t been set yet).

The new Alumni Day Event will be July 17. Many things are already in the planning like an Alumni Golf Tournament, dance, arts & crafts show, concert in the park, carnival, parade, home tours and much more to come. Contact your classmates and come meet old friends at Brookfield’s 1st Annual Alumni Day.

The Inn at Clover Hill Bed & Breakfast is ready to book your wedding, dinner meeting, retreat, reunion, etc. What a great time to have a girl’s weekend out at the Inn at Clover Hill. Located just north of Sumner, give Kathy Carpenter a call at 660-856-3648 or e-mail Kathy@innatcloverhill.com.

Linn County Republican Women will meet Thursday, January 21, at Smith's Business Center on State Street with social at 6:30 and meeting at 7:00. Program is by the Young Republican's from Brookfield High School. Everyone is welcome.

The “Linn County Right to Life” Walk and Soup Supper will be this Friday night, January 22, at 6pm in the Immaculate Conception Church basement.

VFW Post 4557 is back serving breakfast each Saturday. Enjoy pancakes & sausage and/or biscuits & gravy. This is a fundraiser for the VFW, and your attendance would be appreciated. It happens Saturday mornings starting at 6am and is located at 114 E. Wood Street. Cost is a free will donation.

Parks and Recreation Annual Indoor Yard Sale will be starting the first weekend in February. Karen Grant is accepting items at the Burris Center, and you can call 660-258-5644 for drop-off information. I’ve been by and taken a peek... lots & lots of stuff!!

The next Business to Business meeting will be held on Thursday, February 11, at the Brookfield Bookstore. We will discuss “New Ideas for Alternative Methods in Retailing and Marketing.” How could you diversify in your business???

The Marceline FBLA is gathering items for Haiti. An email has been sent asking for Care Kit items - toothbrushes, travel size toothpaste and shampoo, washcloths, hand towels, band aids, wide tooth combs, soap, plastic soap cases, and gallon sized Ziplock bags. If you need them picked up, call the Marceline High School, and they will send someone to get it! (I don’t know if they are picking up in Brookfield.) Help get these Care Kits to those in need. One care kit can help a person in Haiti for 2 weeks.

Junk & Disorderly has a weight loss challenge going on. Weekly weigh in and $1 to join. All money will go to the winner that loses the most weight. For more information, stop by 412 S. State Street or on Facebook, enter Tammy Egerton.
