Brookfield, Missouri - “A Great Place to Land!”
January 2009
"Chamber Chatter"
Happy “2009” from the Brookfield
Chamber! Dates are getting finalized and work is underway for the Annual Chamber Banquet &
Auction…Summer Fun Days…and Brookfield Sesquicentennial. Chamber Chatter is published the 3rd Wednesday of each month and we’ll gladly announce any events your group or organization has coming up. We have a fresh stock of local phone books, plenty of Brookfield Maps, visitor’s guides and the new 2009 Missouri Vacation Planner. All Free of course!!! If you want to stop by the office…don’t forget we are in our new location at 101 S. Main Street. We don’t have a sign up yet but King Printing is designing one for the front window. When Spring comes there will be some great changes to the outside landscape. Can’t wait!!!
New business “McClamroch’s Overstock Bargains” has moved into 202 N. Main Street (old TK’s Overstock). Owners Cody & Malena McClamroch have really made the place look great. I was just there today and Malena has lots of new stock with more arriving all the time. We will do a ribbon cutting in the next couple weeks but meanwhile go welcome them to the community…The phone # is 258-2626.
They are open M-F 9-5 and Sat 10-3. It is really great having more businesses open on Saturday.
The owners of the KFC building on Lockling were here last week from California. They are trying to find another franchise to get the restaurant open again. I’ll keep you posted.
Hope Haven Recycling will be coming to Brookfield with a recycling trailer that will set up on the Wal-Mart Parking Lot one week a month. The kinks aren’t all worked out, but it should happen in the next couple weeks. Hope Haven has also offered us electronic recycling for free. Everything from computers to hairdryers. These will be special pickups. If you want you can deliver your electronics to Hope Haven yourself. Green Hills Recycling in Laclede is still accepting all your recyclables and they are NOT closing…(Bad Rumor). Also,
Bright Beginnings Pre-School recycles 4 months out of the school year. They use these collections to raise funds to support projects for the Career Center early childhood programs. Always support our local fundraising groups first but whatever you do…please recycle.
There was no Chamber lunch today because Janice was gone on
vacation. Next month...February 18th we will resume our lunches as usual…3rd Wednesday, Noon, at “A Step Back In Time”. Our speaker will be Julie Wright. She will speak to us about the YMCA’s new “Adaptive Recreation Program” for individuals with disabilities. You are always welcome to join us…the food is great & the speakers are always informative.
The
Sesquicentennial Museum has secured a location on Main Street for the festivities this Summer...in the former 4-Seasons building on North Main. They (LCHS) are also exploring possibilities for a permanent museum location. The Linn County Historical Society Museum membership fees are only $10/year…they meet on the 2nd Monday at the Library with Rogene Smith as President. You are encouraged to be a part of this undertaking to save our history for future generations to enjoy.
I was at the Linn County Humane Society yesterday to donate some shredded paper…my mistake…they don’t use shredded paper but they do need newspapers to line the cages. Also needed is Bleach, Dishwashing and Laundry soap, 39 Gallon Trash
Bags, Treats for Dogs and Cats, Toys, and Leashes & Collars of all sizes. They are open Mon-Sat 10am-4pm just South of town on Highway 11. Phone # is 258-3322.

The Brookfield Eagles Club Women’s Auxiliary serves up Tenderloin Sandwiches every Tuesday night from 5:30-7:30 and all the

Green Hills Community Action Agency is available to do taxes for Seniors and those who are disabled. Call GHCAA at 258-2211 for an appointment.
Sesquicentennial Casino Night is this Saturday,
January 24th, starting at 6pm at the Elks Lodge. For those of you unfamiliar with the Casino Night…it is $20 at the door. In exchange you get $10,000 in Casino Bucks to gamble with. You also get a chance to win $500 in cash and you get fed (meal donated by Spragues). At the end of the night there will be an auction to allow everyone to spend their Casino Bucks on items donated by local businesses. There are a number of “big ticket” items including a new infrared heater, a Country Club Membership, a YMCA Membership, some beautiful pictures of 1930’s-50’s Brookfield, plus much much more. The plan is…everyone leaves with something. Not bad for $20, huh??? Please come and bring all your friends and family.
The Great Northwest Day at the Capitol is February 3rd. This is an opportunity to visit with legislators and talk about critical issues that face those of us who live in northwest Missouri. If you are interested in attending this day long event, please contact Marcia Cunningham or Becky Cleveland at 258 7278. Registration is $50 and includes introductions at the Capitol, a lunch with legislators to hear about the issues, tours or small group visits with legislators, a Mardi Gras-like event with food and music at the Capitol Plaza Hotel--another opportunity to chat with your representatives and senators.
There will be a Benefit Lunch for the Linn County Humane Society ANIMAL SHELTER…February 8th (Sunday) at the Marceline Masonic Lodge, (201 Main Street) from 11am-1:30pm. Tickets are available at DeVoy Baker Ins.
