Happy almost Spring from the Brookfield Chamber. I’m going to use my positive attitude to try and convince

Today I went to see how the
future Law Offices of Josh and John Fay were coming along at 224 North
Main (I know it best as the old Fat Busters, most recently Junk & Disorderly). I found John on his knees diligently scrubbing the adhesive off a beautiful mosaic/tile floor that probably hadn’t seen the light for 50 or more years. I love to see a piece of history saved instead of covered. This restore/remodel is no quick fix, so don’t be looking for them to move in any too soon. My hat goes off to you John!!!
The 2010 Annual Chamber Banquet &
Auction, along with the BAGP Citizens of the Year Awards will be held on Thursday, April
1, at the Brookfield Elks Club with Social Hour & Silent Auction starting at 6pm and
dinner catered by Stan Monnig at 7pm. The Silent Auction begins at 6PM with Smith Auctioneers conducting the
oral auction after dinner. We will be honoring our 50/100 & 150 year businesses, along with the presentation of the BAGP Citizens of the Year Awards. Tickets are only $25; and it’s always a fun night. The Banquet & Auction is the Chambers largest fundraiser of the year, so please plan on attending.
Two - $250 Scholarships will again be handed out by the Chamber this year. To get a form, just contact Melinda Allen at the High
School, 660-258-7242.
The Brookfield Summer Fun Days will be held June 3rd-6th. We’ll have a Car Show,
free Talent Show, Baby Show & Queen Contest. Arts & Crafts, the Buddy Bass Fishing Tournament, 5 & 10K run, Sidewalk Sales, big
parade and a Friday night concert at the Gazebo. There will be additional entertainment along with a free movie in the
park sponsored by Citizens Bank. We have lost our Carnival for the 1st weekend of June but will have a new one…Jones & Company Carnival…on June 17, 18 & 19. It was too late to change the date of Summer Fun Days this year, but starting 2011 it will be held the 3rd weekend in June to coincide with the
carnival. The craft forms for Summer Fun Days will be going out next week along with an additional craft form for Alumni Weekend for July 17th. We did have a carnival booked for Alumni weekend, but they backed out this past week. UGH!!! The new one for SFD’s is very clean and much larger than the old one. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. Along with that change, we will also be leaving Main Street open (at least the 100 & 200 blocks) to encourage shopping our businesses and providing additional parking.
The Linn County 4H/FFA Fair will be held July 10th-July 17th.
The Farmers Appreciation Picnic
will be held in July.
The new Alumni Day Event will be the weekend of July
17. Many things are already in the planning stages, such as an Alumni Golf Tournament, Dance, Arts & Crafts Show, Concert in the Park, Parade, Home Tours and much more to come. Get hold of your classmates and come meet old friends at Brookfield’s 1st Annual Alumni Day. There will be another planning meeting this Sunday,
February 21, @ 3pm at the Career Center. Volunteers and ideas are welcome.
