Brookfield, Missouri - “A Great Place to Land!”

December, 2007
"Chamber Chatter"

“Merry Christmas and a Very Happy New Year” from the Brookfield Chamber of Commerce. It has been a very busy month and I hope you are all doing a lot better than I am, trying to get ready for the Holidays!!! Kodie, my 4 year old granddaughter shamed me by saying her “other grandmother” already had her tree up and it was loaded with presents…Gosh, what pressure…Holidays are tough enough without the grandma competition!!!

The response to the Brookfield Bucks this past month has been overwhelming… In less than 30 days the Chamber Office has sold over $14,000 in Brookfield Bucks. Now that’s making sure that our money is staying local!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone that has bought Brookfield Bucks!!! They can be used and purchased all year long, although Christmas is their most popular time. They don’t have an expiration date and virtually every business in Brookfield will take them…..use them just like a gift certificate that works for the entire town!!! They can be bought at the Chamber office with no additional expense to the buyer, shopper or the merchant. Its not too late…you too can give Brookfield Bucks!!!

We had Chamber Lunch today with Glen Youngblood as our guest speaker. Glen is the Marketing Representative from Empire District Gas and spoke on how we can help be more energy efficient. Tom Shively, our 8th District State Rep. also gave us a short talk on future plans to assist local residents in bringing solar and wind energy to our area. I love it when they talk “Saving Our Earth”!!! Chamber lunches are held the 3rd Wednesday of each month at noon and you are always welcome to join us.

A ribbon cutting at The Blue Dogs Café, 520 West Lockling, was held on December 6th. Joni DeWeese, General Manager for all of the Mike Wrenn properties in Brookfield & Marceline has made some great changes in the restaurant. Please stop by and welcome Joni and her crew to Brookfield.

We have more engraved bricks from the DeGraw Theatre available. They are $50 and make unique Christmas gifts. These are actual bricks rescued from the theatre, and a part of our Brookfield history. The sale of these bricks and the DeGraw Theatre pen & Ink drawings by Wendy O’Toole can be purchased at the Chamber Office. The monies from the sale of these bricks & prints have been used to beautify Brookfield with flower pots and flowers & the new summer banners.

We had a really nice Christmas Parade with some of the best floats I’ve ever seen. 1st Place went to First Mo. National Bank, 2nd Place to Life Care Center & 3rd Place to Park Baptist Church. Even the Linn County R-1 Marching Band came with decorated instruments. There are always a few mishaps…this year Santa’s ride broke down and he had to walk the last few blocks. We all know Santa could use the exercise, so it didn’t hurt him any!!!

I want to congratulate Karen Grant & her helpers on the beautiful decorations in the Twin Parks this year. I am also very pleased with the new Banners down South Main Street. I hope we can continue through out the year with banners for all the seasons. Again our thanks to the Wal-Mart Grant for making this possible. I can’t speak of decorations and not say how much we appreciate the Street Crew headed by Greg Zahner. They do all the hanging of the decorations and believe me they are a lot bigger and heavier than they look.

If you should have a question on anything that’s going on, please feel free to call the chamber office @ 258-7255 or e-mail us. The Chamber is here to assist in bettering our community in any way we can by offering information about our area, welcoming new businesses and families, hosting special events to attract visitors and enhance shopping. Till next month…Travel Safely, Eat Hearty & Shop Local….Thanks for reading “CHAMBER CHATTER”!!!
