"Chamber Chatter"
Hello
from the Brookfield Chamber of Commerce and what a relief it is to have
a day to dry out.… As I wrote this Chatter I couldn’t help but
notice how many of our new businesses have come to us from somewhere
else in this United States. Brian Menini & his wife (Brookfield
Bowl) came from California as did Ygal Levy (Twisters Fire Grill) as did
John & Lisa McIntosh (The Time Warp). Rhonda & Calvin Uptain
(Brookfield Bookstore) came from Colorado along with Rebecca &
Justin Hale (co-owners of Reel Time Cinema) and that’s just the ones
talked about in this Chamber Chatter…Isn’t it wonderful that they
have all seen the value in opening a business in Brookfield. Now we need
to show our thanks by giving them our business…I show 25 business that
have opened in the past year and 58 Welcome Wagon Bags that have been
delivered to new residents since January. I love it!!!! Now on to more
chatter.
Congressman
Sam Graves will be here this Thursday, August 20th, to meet with
local folks to discuss our area issues and concerns. He will be at the
Reel Time Cinema at 1:30 p.m. Please come…everyone is invited.
Brookfield
Bowl is holding Youth Signups this Saturday Aug 22nd from 1-3 pm.
This includes free bowling and shoe rental for any youth that signs up
for a youth league. If they can't make this Saturday's date, just call
Brookfield Bowl to make arrangements to sign up after that date. Regular
Bowling Leagues Start Sep 19th. This year they have a Friday afternoon
league starting at 3:00pm, Saturday Morning at 10:00 am and Saturday
afternoon at 1:00 pm. Kids 12 & under will be bowling in a themed
bowling league called “Bowlopolis”. There is a website www.bowlopolis.com
and each bowler 12 & under will receive a DVD with bowling cartoons,
and all youth bowlers receive a bowling shirt included in their
registration fee of $17. Call Brian @ 258-7476 for any more info.
Chamber
Lunches begin again on September 16th at “A Step Back in Time”
with speakers Ryan Johnson & Chuck Hayes from Chariton Valley. They
will be telling us about the new towers going up in the area along with
other new improvements. If you haven’t been coming to the Chamber
Lunches…please make an effort to attend. The food is great and of
course it’s always good company!!! Third Wednesday of every month at
Noon.
The
Recycling Trailer continues to need emptying by Friday morning.
(They empty and return it the same day). That is all good!!! The trailer
will return next month to the Wal-Mart parking lot on September
16th-23rd. Thank you all who recycle!!! If you are a business and have
cardboard or pallets to be picked up just call Hope Haven at 646-5172.
The truck comes to Brookfield twice a week to pick up these items.
Reel
Time Cinema has become a new favorite thing for my grandkids & I
to do together…While at the afternoon matinee this past Saturday…we
got to watch the giant truck of arcade games unload. What a great place
this is going to be. It won’t be long now and we’ll be having a
ribbon cutting at the new Arcade & Party Room. Remember the phone
#258-2224 or go online to check out the times and what’s showing at www.reeltimecinema.com.
Twisters
Fire Grill is hoping to open by Balloon Derby. I got to sample the
new “Latte’/Espresso/Cappuccino” coffees this morning. They were
so delicious!!! Since I have been decaffeinated for years…my mind is
running faster than my fingers!!! :o)
Junk
& Disorderly didn’t leave town after all. They have relocated
in the old State Street Station Building at 412 S. State Street. They
still have Antique & Craft Booths and still have live music on
Saturdays. The new hours are Mon-Fri 8:30-3:30 and 10-4 on Saturday. You
can reach them by calling 660-973-6220. The Ribbon Cutting will be
Tuesday, August 25th at 10AM. Please visit them next week during
their Grand Opening!!!
New
Antique Store “The Time Warp Antique & Thrift Store” is
located across the street from my office in the old Beaches Building.
John & Lisa McIntosh, owners formerly had a booth in Junk &
Disorderly. The address is 112 S. Main Street and the phone # is
258-7191.
“Let’s
Talk Business” the new discussion group for Linn County

Society last Thursday. He was very informative and shed new light on
where we need to begin. They have also completed the first group
brochure with another in the planning. For more information on the new
brochures you can contact Calvin or Rhonda Uptain @ 258-7800 or Brain
Menini @ 258-7476. The next meeting will be held at the Bookstore on

coming onto the field instead of sitting along the road. The Crafters
will be in the Twin parks all day on Saturday and the big Balloonist
Parade kicks off at Noon. Everyone is invited to join in the Parade!!
Saturday night there’s a free dance (everyone welcome) at the Elks
Club with local band “Mid Life Crisis’ playing from 9am-1am. The
