"Chamber Chatter"
Happy April from the Brookfield Chamber of
Commerce…I must say that the visitors to my new office are triple what I had on the North side of town. Maybe it’s the parking…I don’t know, but it’s nice. If you’ve been waiting for that new Brookfield phone book…I have them….hundreds of them, so please…come get all you need. It’s almost Earth Day (April 22nd)…and I hope everyone will think a little bit harder about Reduce, Reuse & Recycle. Our recycling trailer at Wal-Mart was overfull on Saturday…That’s so great. Next month the dates are May 6th-13th. Happy Birthday to Zack (my only Grandson who is almost 9!!!)
The 2009 Annual Chamber Banquet &
Auction, along with the BAGP Citizen of the Year Awards were held on Thursday, April 2nd at the Brookfield Elks Club. Our 2 scholarships of $250 each were awarded to Skylar Billingsley & Emily Luckert. The BAGP Citizens of the Year Awards went to Heather York in the Youth Category…Jim & Jeff Elliott in Philanthropy…The Sesquicentennial Committee for Leadership…and Comfort Living for Entrepreneurship. A special award called “Reconnecting Brookfield” was awarded to Gary & Janice Merritt for their outstanding revival of the old Thompson & Cooks Building. The Chamber honors went to the Immaculate Conception Church, the City of Brookfield, and the Brookfield Post Office…all 150 years young!!! The Annual Banquet & Auction is the Chambers largest fundraiser of the year and over $6600 was raised. Our best ever!!! Thank you to all who made it possible. The many caring individuals & businesses that purchased tickets and donated the auction items. And to you all that bought the Auction items. You may not think much about it, but without these caring people in our wonderful town of Brookfield the Chamber would not be able to sponsor the many events we do all year. My many thanks to you all!!!
Chamber Lunch was held today at “A Step Back in Time”. Our speaker was Julie Johnson from The Linn County Historical Society/Museum. She had much to tell about this wonderful new addition to Brookfield. Remember you are always welcome to join us the 3rd Wed. of each month…the food is great & the speakers are always informative. May 20th will be the last Chamber lunch till we resume in September.
