"Chamber Chatter"
Hello, and a week late, from the Brookfield Chamber of Commerce!!!
This has been such a busy summer and then the free promotion we got for the Balloon Derby (with the front
cover seen at right) in "Rural Missouri" kicked up the phone calls & e-mails
twenty-fold. The wild thing is none of these people had any idea that Brookfield had a balloon
derby. Well, they do now, and there are a lot of people that are brand new to our area coming to spend the weekend with us next week.
Let's make sure we have our best faces on to welcome our new visitors!!! Also a big CONGRATULATIONS to our friends & neighbors in Laclede on General
Pershing's 150th Birthday celebration!!!
The
Recycling Trailer continues to need emptying by Friday morning & Monday morning. That is good!!! The trailer will return next month to the Wal-Mart parking lot on September 8th-15th.
Remember - NO glass & NO garbage. Thank you all who recycle!!! If you are a business and have cardboard or pallets to be picked up, just call Hope Haven at
660-646-5172.
You may also recycle at the
Early Childhood Center "Bright Beginnings" at the school, on these dates: September 30th , November 11th,
March 3rd, and April 28th. They collect all paper, aluminum cans & recyclable plastics.
We want to welcome
new chamber member "Bristol Manor of Brookfield". They are an assisted living facility located
at 338 Thompson Street. Manager Mary Moultrie has told me about all the fun activities they host at their facility along with a special
function - adult daycare. If you would like any additional information, just call them at
660-258-5065.
The
winner of the Chamber Balloon Sponsorship this year is "Martin House
Motel". They will receive the balloon ride and all passes and sponsor invites throughout the weekend. Congratulations!!! The winner is randomly chosen from all the paid-up members for the
2010-2011 year!!! The Chamber balloon is "Budzilla" with pilot Andrew James.
Next
big event in Brookfield is the 34th
"Great Pershing Balloon Derby" on Labor Day weekend, September
2-6. We again have a children's bouncy blow-up carnival this year opening Thursday and running
through Saturday. The Queen Contest kicks off the event on Thursday evening at the Gazebo. For more info, call Jennifer Luddington @ 591-6618. Friday,
the pilots arrive; and we have the South Main Nite Flame sponsored by McDonalds Restaurant and Greg Simmerman (American Family
Insurance). Flights are Saturday, Sunday & Monday mornings at 7:15AM and Saturday & Sunday afternoon at 6PM. We will also have a glow-on both Saturday and Sunday evenings after the flights. Tickets are $2 each or $6 a carload or $15 for a full weekend pass. Please support the Derby by coming onto the field instead of sitting along the road. The downtown merchants will be having their big sidewalk sales Friday & Saturday. The
Crafters will be in the Twin parks all day on Saturday, and the big Balloon Derby Parade is at Noon. Everyone is invited to join in the Parade!! Saturday night
there's a free dance (everyone welcome) at the Elk's Club with local band
"Mid Life Crisis" playing from 9am-1am. Joining the Derby this year is the Brookfield Fly-In at the Airport on Sunday Sept. 5th. Pancakes &
sausage starts at 7:30, free airplane rides for kids 7-14 start at 9am, ping ball drop, radio control airplane displays, & fun for the whole family!!! Get ready,
here's another great weekend right around the corner.
Green Hills Ballooning has their t-shirts for sale and on display at NCM Graphics. Just go in and pick out a size and color, and it will be delivered the next day for you to pick up!!! Family weekend passes are also available for only $15 at the Chamber office or NCM Graphics.
Green Hills Ballooning will also be sponsoring a
Food Drive to assist the local Food Pantry. You can drop off food donations at the South Main Nite
Flame or at the entrance gate of the launch field or any time over the weekend downstairs in the ballroom of the
Elk's Lodge. For additional information call Dee White at 660-412-4232.
Chamber Lunches begin again on September 15th at
"A Step Back in Time" with speaker Deane Valkenaar, Executive Director of the North Central Missouri Chapter of the American Red
Cross located in Kirksville. She will be speaking about the new areas that the Red Cross will be expanding into. If you
haven't been coming to the Chamber Lunches, please make an effort to attend. The food is great and of course
it's always good company!!! Third Wednesday of every month at Noon.
Sears Hometown Store is in the midst of an interior remodel.
They ask for you to excuse the mess that should be complete by September 10th at the latest. They will have a
"Grand Remodel" sale happening soon after!!!
Oktoberfest will be the same weekend as
Homecoming... October 8th & 9th. The 8th features the big Homecoming parade and football game,
and the 9th includes our annual free arts, crafts, garage sale, bakery, anything you want to sell booths, along with the chili contest and kids
and adult apple pie contest and pumpkin pie contest. Come join us... it's family fun for everyone!!!
If you have any questions on anything in the Chamber Chatter, just call the chamber office @
660-258-7255 or e-mail
us. The Chamber is here to assist in bettering our community in any way we can by offering information about our area, welcoming new businesses and families, hosting special events to attract visitors and enhance shopping.
Till next month… Give
thanks for what we do have... Travel Safely... “Shop Local”...
Recycle... Give to those less fortunate... and thanks for reading “CHAMBER CHATTER”!!!
